In any case, her arrangements for the frustration of others gave Samantha less joy than she had trusted. When on Saturday morning she mentioned to Miles what she had done, he responded with dubious energy. ââ¬ËGreat, better believe it, we havenââ¬â¢t had Gavin round for a very long time. What's more, pleasant for you to become more acquainted with Kay.ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËWhy?ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËWell, you generally continued ahead with Lisa, didnââ¬â¢t you?ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËMiles, I detested Lisa.ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËWell, OK â⬠¦ possibly youââ¬â¢ll like Kay better!ââ¬â¢ She scowled at him, pondering where this amiableness was originating from. Lexie and Libby, home for the end of the week and cooped up in the house as a result of the downpour, were viewing a music DVD in the living room; a guitar-loaded number blastd through to the kitchen where their folks stood talking. ââ¬ËListen,ââ¬â¢ said Miles, shaking his portable, ââ¬ËAubrey needs to stop for a moment to chat with me about the board. Iââ¬â¢ve just called Dad, and the Fawleys have welcomed all of us to supper today around evening time at Sweetlove â⬠ââ¬Ë ââ¬ËNo thanks,ââ¬â¢ said Samantha, cutting him off. She was unexpectedly loaded with a wrath she could scarcely clarify, even to herself. She left the room. They contended in soft tones everywhere throughout the house as the day progressed, doing whatever it takes not to ruin their daughtersââ¬â¢ end of the week. Samantha would not alter her perspective or to talk about her reasons. Miles, terrified of blowing up at her, was on the other hand propitiatory and cold. ââ¬ËHow do you think itââ¬â¢s going to look on the off chance that you donââ¬â¢t come?ââ¬â¢ he said at ten to eight that night, remaining in the entryway of the parlor, prepared to leave, wearing formal attire. ââ¬ËItââ¬â¢s nothing to do with me, Miles,ââ¬â¢ Samantha said. ââ¬ËYouââ¬â¢re the one running for office.ââ¬â¢ She loved watching him vacillate. She tuned in to the vehicle switching out of the drive, at that point went into the kitchen, opened a jug of wine and brought it once again into the living room with a glass. She continued envisioning Howard, Shirley and Miles all eating together at Sweetlove House. It would doubtlessly be the first climax Shirley had in quite a while. Her considerations turned powerfully to what her bookkeeper had said to her during the week. Benefits were path down, whatever she had professed to Howard. The bookkeeper had really proposed shutting the shop and focusing on the online side of the business. This would be a confirmation of disappointment that Samantha was not set up to make. For a certain something, Shirley would adore it if the shop shut; she had been a bitch about it from the beginning. Iââ¬â¢m sorry, Sam, itââ¬â¢s not so much my taste â⬠¦ only a small piece over the top â⬠¦ But Samantha cherished her little red and dark shop in Yarvil; adored escaping from Pagford consistently, visiting to clients, tattling with Carly, her colleague. Her reality would be small without the shop she had supported for a long time; it would contract, so, to Pagford. (Pagford, ridiculous Pagford. Samantha had never intended to live here. She and Miles had arranged a year out before beginning work, a round-the-world excursion. They had their agenda mapped out, their visas prepared. Samantha had imagined about strolling shoeless and connected at the hip on long white Australian sea shores. And afterward she had discovered that she was pregnant. She had come down to visit him at ââ¬ËAmblesideââ¬â¢, a day after she had taken the pregnancy test, multi week after their graduation. They should leave for Singapore in eight daysââ¬â¢ time. Samantha had not had any desire to tell Miles in his parentsââ¬â¢ house; she was anxious about the possibility that that they would catch. Shirley appeared to be behind each entryway Samantha opened in the cottage. So she held up until they were sitting at a dull corner table operating at a profit Canon. She recalled the inflexible line of Milesââ¬â¢ jaw when she let him know; he appeared, in some indefinable way, to get more seasoned as the news hit him. He didn't represent a few froze seconds. At that point he stated, ââ¬ËRight. Weââ¬â¢ll get married.ââ¬â¢ He disclosed to her that he had just gotten her a ring, that he had been wanting to propose some place great, some place like the highest point of Ayers Rock. Sufficiently sure, when they returned to the home, he uncovered the little box from where he had just shrouded it in his backpack. It was a little solitaire precious stone from a jewellerââ¬â¢s in Yarvil; he had gotten it with a portion of the cash his grandma had left him. Samantha had sat on the edge of Milesââ¬â¢ bed and cried and cried. They had hitched three months after the fact.) Alone with her jug of wine, Samantha turned on the TV. Samantha slugged back her wine, watching the band messing with one another, at that point getting sincere as they examined the amount they cherished their fans. It developed late; she delayed the DVD, went upstairs and advised the young ladies to leave the PlayStation and hit the sack; at that point she came back to the parlor, where she was seventy five percent of the route down the container of wine. She had not turned on the lights. She squeezed play and continued drinking. At the point when the DVD completed, she set it back to the start and watched the bit she had missed. One of the young men showed up fundamentally more develop than the other three. He was more extensive over the shoulders; biceps swell underneath the short sleeves of his T-shirt; he had a thick solid neck and a square jaw. Samantha watched him undulating, gazing into the camera with a disengaged genuine demeanor on his attractive face, which was all planes and edges and winged dark eyebrows. She thought of sex with Miles. It had last happened three weeks beforehand. His exhibition was as unsurprising as a Masonic handshake. One of his preferred truisms was ââ¬Ëif itââ¬â¢s not broke, donââ¬â¢t fix itââ¬â¢. Samantha discharged the remainder of the container into her glass and envisioned creation love to the kid on the screen. Her bosoms glanced better in a bra nowadays; they spilled wherever when she set down; it caused her to feel out of shape and dreadful. She imagined herself, constrained back against a divider, one leg propped up, a dress pushed up to her abdomen and that solid dull kid with his pants round his knees, pushing all through her â⬠¦ With a reel in the pit of her stomach that was practically similar to bliss, she heard the vehicle turning around into the drive and the light emissions headlights swung around the dim living room. She mishandled with the controls to go over to the news, which took her any longer than it should have done; she pushed the vacant wine bottle under the couch and gripped her practically vacant glass as a prop. The front entryway opened and shut. Miles went into the room behind her. ââ¬ËWhy are you staying here in the dark?ââ¬â¢ He turned on a light and she looked up at him. He was also prepared as he had been the point at which he left, aside from the raindrops on the shoulders of his coat. ââ¬ËHow was dinner?ââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËFine,ââ¬â¢ he said. ââ¬ËYou were missed. As the article mentions, humans communicate using different modes. For example, some of these modes include communicating linguistically, visually, auditory, gestural, and spatially. In order for children to be able to read, write, and speak, they have to be exposed to many of these modes. Picture books are known to be a type of multimodal text. The article includes a short scenario about a first grader named Allie. She shared what she thought about picture books. Allie made a statement during retelling time. She said that the picture in the book tells her more about a story. She said she was able to see something in the illustration that the written text did not say. For example, she stated that she was able to tell that the Willy was really trying. This is not something that was stated in the text, but she was able to tell by looking at the illustration. However, she also stated that there are times when she didnââ¬â¢t know what the illustrations showed, but it was explained through the text. There are times that the written text doesnââ¬â¢t give a lot of description for young children to be able to picture it in their mind. Answer: Health care is a complex system which involves a large number of individuals and organisations. In order to function effectively the clinicians are required to understand these inter-connected complex pathways and systems of care. Moreover, they must also remain comfortable while working both with and within, these inter-regulated systems for the overall benefit of the patients. The following essays aims to in order make effective change in practise and improvement of the quality of care while working in sync with different organisations and group of professionals. Overview of different styles of leadership According to Gleeson (2018), effective leadership is an integral part of any organisations and not all the situations demands same leadership styles. The leaders adapt changes in the leadership styles based on the surrounding environments and thereby empower the team to succeed. Some of the unique approach of leadership styles as stated by Gleeson (2018) is illustrated below in tabular format Having faith in your beliefs Making hard choices Earning respect of the team members: Not taking all the credits Knowing the team from the core: Recognising talents Recognising the members of the team as the key towards success: Extracting the best from the team Having a clear and articulate vision Pushing the members of the team to achieve their best: Cultivating an Environment for growth Serving for a greater cause Focusing on helping the members of the team: education, motivation and delegation Never to lead by force: Leading by example and inspiring without intimidation Table: Traits of an effective leader (Source: Gleeson 2018) Clinical leadership in nursing According to the reports published by the National Health Service (NHS), Institute of Innovation and Improvement (2011), the health systems round the world is gradually grappling with the task of delivering system-wide evidence based approach, person centred care along with effective and efficient mode of care models. Clinical leadership particularly in the domain ofnursing profession is proposed to be an integral pillar towards reaching this potential goal (NHS Leadership Academy 2013). According to Ogrin and Barrett (2015), there is no definite definition of clinical leadership however role of a clinical leader summarise to the process of developing a culturally competent environment and then leading a set of tasks for continuous improvements of the quality and safety of service delivery model of healthcare to the service consumers. Effective mode of clinical leadership encompasses individuals with accurate skills and traits at all spheres of the organisation along with prime focus on the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary service delivery model Ogrin and Barrett (2015). According to Ogrin and Barrett (2015), the nurses who are under the formal leadership position like the nurse managers are of the opinion that the clinical leadership attributes they required in their roles fall under the three main areas namely personal attributes, team attributes and capabilities. Personal attributes Having sound confidence in the ability of self to procure best practise Nimble in the domain of effective communication Emotional intelligence Team attributes Encouragement of trust and commitment among the team members via valuing skills and expertise of others. Increasing the focus of the team members Capabilities Building and maintaining steady relationships among the team members Encouraging contribution from other members of the team Creating a clear direction of progress and ability to serve as a role model My perspective in clinical leadership innursing is solely based on the Clinical Leadership Competency Framework of NHS Leadership Academy. According to NHS, the core traits that must be executed among the a clinical leader innursing profession is demonstration of personal qualities, working with others, managing services, improving services and setting directions. All these traits highlighted by the NHS under clinicalleadership in nursing profession related with the core principles of the leadership models and thus can be prove to be effective in achieving desired quality outcomes. Leadership characteristics influencing practise change in quality improvement The importance of the application of effective clinical leadership in order to ensure quality health care system that constantly provides efficient and safe care has been restricted in the domain of the scholarly literature only an in other reports of the governmental publications. At present, commission, inquiries and reports have promoted the engagement of the clinician and clinical leadership as the principal pillar of achieving along with sustaining the improvement in the domain of quality care patient safety (Daly et al. 2014). According to Ogrin and Barrett (2015) organisations are now beginning to embrace the model of clinical leadership in order to improve the quality of care. According to Ennis, Happell and Reid?Searl (2015), clinical leadership helps in the quality improvement via reinforcing the importance of delivering individualised evidenced-based care model to the clients. Research have demonstrated that the model of clinical leadership can lead towards the possible ga teway of improved outcomes with more positive experience coming from the consumers of the health care and thereby contributing towards the recruitment and retention of the nursing staffs. According to Davidson, Elliott and Daly (2006), effective clinical leaders use confident and calm approach under clinical situations. This type of approach helps to achieve positive clinical outcomes on the patients along under crisis situations or other unplanned events under the healthcare settings. This improvement of the outcome during the crisis situation helps to increase the overall quality of the health-care model. Swanwick and McKimm (2011) opined that execution of the clinical leadership models that vouches for the confident and clam approach during the emergency situation helps in the establishment of effective therapeutic leadership and thereby promoting effectiveness of the output of the multidisciplinary team and thereby helping to improve the overall health outcome of the patients. I n the domain of health improving the health outcome, Swanwick and McKimm (2011) opined that comprehensive healthcare cannot be delivered by a single healthcare professionals but demands a complex systems working in concert that both tenured and novice healthcare professionals. Thus one-to-one clinical leadership is not enough; quality care involves effective participation of multidisciplinary team along with assistance from the trainee professionals. This comprehensive support apart from improving the overall health outcomes also facilitated proving effective training with the newly enrolled healthcare professionals and thereby helping to upgrade the system as a whole. This gives an evidence towards teaching of nursing leadership from the perspectives of management. Ennis, Happell and Reid?Searl (2015) further opined that clinical leadership is also proved to be effective in procuring quality mental health. Effective clinical leaders enrolled under the mental health nursing can faci litate more positive environment and thus potentially contributing both the patients and the newly enrolled nurse to develop positive attitudes towards the care plan and the services being offered. However, the NHS in UK is now focusing on empowerment of the clinicians and the front line employees in order to refine their decision making capabilities via working in unison with sharing of information via active communication (Ogrin and Barrett 2015). Davidson, Elliott and Daly (2006) further stated that systematic strategic initiatives are important in order to develop effective clinical leadership model. These systematic strategic strategies are required to be undertaken under collegial collaborations between the health care and the academic sectors and thus helping to provide united strength for making advancement in the nursing profession. Critical analysis of the interview In order to enquire more detailed about how leadership characteristics can influence practice change, and what are the important traits of the clinical leaders in the healthcare organisations, I have interviewed two nurses with experience in nursing leadership (the interview question are provided in the appendix). Response to first question In response to the first question nurse (1) replied, First of all, I would like to say that I admired my on-job trainer as my leader role model in my nursing profession and the main trait executed by her which I admired most is working effectively with others as a team. I think this attitude of her helped in building and maintaining relationships with the other members of the teams and thereby helping to deliver quality service along with increasing the team bonding. I think what nurse (1) opined in relation to question 1 is absolutely relevant in the domain of clinical leadership model. According to NHS Institute of Innovation and Improvement (2011), it is the duty of the healthcare professionals to execute leadership via developing networks via working in partnership with their representatives, colleagues, patients, carers, service users. This in turn helps to improve the quality of service and at the same time helps to promote sharing of information among the resources. It also he lps to create opportunities to bringing individuals or group of individuals together in order to achieve a defined set of goals and thus explaining the qualities of exemplary nurse leaders. Though nurse (1) have only state her comments based on her perspective of the subordinated working under the leader, it also has an emotional intelligence approach. According to Tomey (2009), creating association with the patients and their family of carers help to develop care plan through informed decision-making. In response to question (1), nurse (2) came up with that one of th'e important traits of her role model of nursing leadership is setting directions. She said that, My role model as a leader was able to identify the contexts for change and this he used to do via anticipating and preparing for the future consequences via scanning for new ideas along with best practices and emerging trends that will helpful to cast an significant impact on health outcomes. He also used to apply the knowledge and evidence-based approach towards framing the care plan while influencing others to make proper use of the knowledge and evidence to achieve the best possible results. I thing, the issues highlighted by nurse (1) extremely evident in the present days scenario. This is because, according to DiCenso, Guyatt and Ciliska (2014), application of evidence-based approach is an unique approach in nursing care as it provides the nurse with new tools for evaluating the nursing literature and clinical scenari os and then developing the care plan based on that approach. Thus, this aspect of clinical leadership helps in the improvement of the literature based knowledge of the healthcare professionals and thereby helping them to devise the care plan in accordance to the prevailing outcomes and standards. Melnyk et al. (2012) further opined that nurse leaders or the educators must provide opportunities regarding the EBP while facilitating supportive culture to achieve effective clinical decision making. Response to second question In response to second question, nurse (1) is of the opinion that she as a nursing leader always try to work effectively with her team members. She said that, I always try to work along with my team members in order to improve the overall service. She also said that the first thing which I keep in mind while working in unison with my team members is ensuring the safety of my patients while critically evaluating the vital parameter of the patients health outcomes. She also stressed over the fact that while working in with her team members she always encourages improvement and innovation. She said that, It is the role of a leader to encourage innovative approach among the team mates and this helps to increase the participation among the team members while increasing the increase in the flow of the effective information and thereby helping to increase the overall health outcomes. As per my understanding, the main clinical leadership model practise by nurse (1) is improvement of the overa ll service delivery via encouraging effective participation of the team members and effective flow of the information. According to Weng et al. (2015), it is the duty of the leader to promote learning and developmental opportunities via creating and promoting opportunities for colleagues. This will in turn help to generate open debatable ideas and there encouraging change, and improvement in practise. Moreover, an efficient clinical leader must systematically appraise the evolving practise via acknowledging the team members who have given effective contribution towards framing of that practise. This in turn will help to earn respect from the team members as taking all the credit may demotivate or generate unrest among the subordinate team members. Nurse (2) also opined that towards the improvement of the quality of care, she trains and subordinates locally and engages them under local networks to practice and publicise good practise thus improving effective treatment. As per opinion her clinical leadership model as an influence of the transformational leadership in nursing profession. According to Weng et al. (2015) the role of the transformational leadership is to foster nursing innovation via improvement in the organizational climate. Her aspect of the leadership model facilitated transformation and thus further providing the reference of transformational leadership model in her clinical leadership framework. However, she did not highlight the strategies that she undertakes in order to review patient satisfaction. According to Martin et al. (2012) under the domain of clinical leadership, it is the role of the leader to consult with the senior colleagues to review the patient satisfaction in order to develop strategies for implementing and thereby managing innovative solutions within the organizations. Nurse (2) opined she apply her clinical leadership skills towards managing the service in an effective manner. Via managing the service, she opined that she manages her people, available resources along with the management of the performance. I think, this is another important attribute of the nursing leader under the clinical practice. This is because as per the findings of the NHS (2011), it is the duty of the member of the management team towards contributing development of the business and this development of business in healthcare is achieved via initiating along with proper collaboration and ola ning of service improvement projects. Response to third question In response to third question both nurse (1) and nurse (2) said that their leadership approach towards under the ethics of the clinical leadership model framework helps in comprehensive management of the recourses and thereby helping to manage the performance. They also said that the proper management of the performance is done via critical evaluation of the service procured and this helped them to bring further improvement and innovation into the overall system. I think, what they have opined is indeed significant towards bringing a crucial practice change in the health care system but according to Gantz et al. (2012), further setting of goals and pushing members of the team towards more improved outcomes along with helping them to work in unison in a confident and compose manner will help to critically manage the crisis situation. Moreover, I also feel that they must also not preach leadership via force and must practice leadership via inspiring without intimidations as this will i ncrease the sense of participation and satisfaction. Thus from the above discussion it can be concluded that the practise of clinical leadership helps to impose proper practise change in the healthcare organisations and thereby helping to improve the quality of care among the patients and the family of carers. However, from the interview it is evident that the nursing leader must further emphasise on the more improved outcomes via asking their team members to work under calm, composed and confident manner and thereby improving the overall health outcomes during the crisis situation. Some of the behaviours that young people develop through these development stages are such as disobedience, drug abuse, delayed duties, poor academic performances, and low self-esteem amongst other emotional problems (Freeman, 1985, p. 321). From the case study, Ben is encountered undergoing psychological problem that have caused an alarm to the whole family. These problems are far from external causes, they are problems that he has built for himself through thought. He is pessimistic about the future and this has brought to him much stress, he sees no need to work hard in class work, he is engaged in drug and substance abuse and disobedient. Bad peer influence has contributed a lot in the behavioural changes of ben. The only remedy to ben's problems is counsel him I an effort to input positive thought in his mind. Systematic approach of tackling families and their children problems involve family based approach such as parent training. Parents could be trained on how to approach their children to realize their emotional problems they may be undergoing and try to reach them as per their capacity. The problem of drug abuse could be dealt with by parents' commitment to free their children from drug abuse (Adams, 1968, p. 67). Parents create drug-free environment if they act as role models by not engaging in drug abuse. It will be very hard to convince a young person to refrain from drugs if you abuse drugs. In the case of Ben, his parents need to embrace a systematic psychology therapy to make him avoid being involved in drug abuse by acting as role models to him. Central to the cognitive view of people is the idea that they are actively trying to make sense of their environment by imposing order and meaning in the things they encounter. Cognitive explanations of the behaviour are found within the ways in which Ben organise and process information that is relevant to the particular methods of acting. In the case study, we could only recognise the fate of Ben by engaging in efforts to study the causes of what make him behave in a differently way. The idea that Ben is born by old couple contributes and in addition, very busy parents, contributes to a lack of parental love. Ben's situation could also be analysed through creative approach. Creative approach in working with young people to build coherent intervention entails an analytical examination of the problems and gathering of various ideas about solving it. The ideas on how to solve the emotional problems could come from experience of the parent. The outcome of a particular psychological problem that Ben has ever been exposed to could guide his parents in solving a related matter at hand (Myers, 2004, p.266). Integrating creative, cognitive behaviour and systematic approach comprises of merging all these three techniques of solving emotional problems, to a strong design of solving psychological problems. This model may take several routes in efforts to make it realistic. The very first plan in integration of different psychological approaches is common factors. The common factors plan of integration tries to judge the core elements that different approaches have in common. The merit of common factors approach is that, it emphasis on therapeutic actions that have been demonstrated to be the most effective. This helps to analyse Ben's emotional problem based on common elements found in all the three methods, therefore, more efficient model in working with Ben to build a coherent intervention (Neenam Palmer, 2012, p. 56). Young people are taught in a way to conduct. By showing Ben on what is right and wrong, you build on his character. A good character is a great contribution to the society. Young people create the potential future generation and influencing a young person positively adds value in the generation to come. The other method to psychological approach integration is through technical eclecticism. Through technical eclecticism, Ben's parents are guided to picking what has worked best for others previously. In solving a mental problem, Ben's parents would try to look Douglas Calderonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01630213353440302089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9071532149021415064.post-63067785528712555722020-03-09T17:04:00.001-07:002020-03-09T17:04:04.120-07:00Second Amendment Text, Origins, and MeaningSecond Amendment Text, Origins, and Meaning Below is the original text of the Second Amendment: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. Origins Having been oppressed by a professional army, the founding fathers of the United States had no use for establishing one of their own. Instead, they decided that an armed citizenry makes the best army of all. General George Washington created regulation for the aforementioned well-regulated militia, which would consist of every able-bodied man in the country. Controversy The Second Amendment holds the distinction of being the only amendment to the Bill of Rights that essentially goes unenforced. The U.S. Supreme Court has never struck down any piece of legislation on Second Amendment grounds, in part because justices have disagreed on whether the amendment is intended to protect the right to bear arms as an individual right, or as a component of the well-regulated militia. Interpretations of the Second Amendment There are three predominant interpretations of the Second Amendment.à The civilian militia interpretation, which holds that the Second Amendment is no longer valid, having been intended to protect a militia system that is no longer in place. The individual rights interpretation, which holds that the individual right to bear arms is a basic right on the same order as the right to free speech. The median interpretation, which holds that the Second Amendment does protect an individual right to bear arms but is restricted by the militia language in some way. Where the Supreme Court Stands The only Supreme Court ruling in U.S. history that has focused primarily on the issue of what the Second Amendment really means is U.S. v. Miller (1939), which is also the last time the Court examined the amendment in any serious way. In Miller, the Court affirmed a median interpretation holding that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to bear arms, but only if the arms in question are those that would be useful as part of a citizen militia. Or maybe not; interpretations vary, partly because Miller is not an exceptionally well-written ruling. The D.C. Handgun Case In Parker v. District of Columbia (March 2007), the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Washington, D.C.s handgun ban on grounds that it violates the Second Amendments guarantee of an individual right to bear arms. The case is being appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller, which may soon address the meaning of the Second Amendment. Almost any standard would be an improvement over Miller. This article contains a more detailed discussion of whether theà Second Amendment guarantees the right to bear arms. It will highlight how it has impacted the social and economic life of the people in the world and which policies have been made by the authorities to restrict the mafia from affecting the lives of the people. Whether there has been any restriction policy on this major mafia group or not is another big question which will be answered by this research paper (Sinai, 2007). The paper will start with background information following the related theories regarding the Sicilian Mafia. The current situations of the criminal group along with their economic impact on the entire world will be discussed. The methodology of the research paper will also be presented and the results will be drawn out of the economic statistics. The main objective of this research p aper is to check the association of the origin of Sicilian Mafia with the higher profits earned in the lemon and citrus fruits markets. The work has basically been done by taking the data from the imperfect market situations of the 19th century. The paper is going to highlight the facts regarding the Italian imperfect markets of citrus fruits where the fixed costs of growing citrus fruits were very high. This entry barrier caused only a few people to grow these fruits, thus earning significantly higher profits as well (Dimico, 2012). At that time the government rule was also very poor, but in order to prevent the people from earning higher profit Douglas Calderonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01630213353440302089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9071532149021415064.post-75064560763149007192020-02-06T00:17:00.001-08:002020-02-06T00:17:02.442-08:00Managing Human Resource Issues Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 wordsManaging Human Resource Issues - Assignment Example Hard HR focuses on business needs of HR and takes action accordingly i.e. hiring, firing and moving. 2. Soft HR Soft HR treats employees as their most important assets and resource. Many business, make their employees their competitive advantage. Special care is taken for planning and fulfilling the needs of employees and under soft HR, employees are treated as individuals. Soft HR focuses on the needs of employees that include motivation, rewards and roles. 3. Tight and Loose Dimensions of HRM Tight and loose dimensions of HRM depicts that some organizations prefer to provide a loose (informal) environment to their employees so that they can work in a more pleasant and easy environment whereas tight dimension of HRM refers to the more formally organized workforce where the main objective is to accomplish goals by any means. Review the differences between Storeyââ¬â¢s definitions of HRM and personnel and IR practices Storeyââ¬â¢s Definition of HRM According to Storey, human com mitment and capability is essential for every organization. He argues that human resource, capability and commitment are what differentiate an organization. Therefore, importance of human capital needs to be integrated at the highest level of management in organization. Human capital must be integrated in all the functions of an organization so as to enable the organization to achieve its goals. IR Practices Storeyââ¬â¢s IR practices incorporate that employees needs to follow certain rules, regulations, policies, norms and customers within the workplace. It creates division of labor among workforce because the pays of workers are made on standard rules. Analyze HRM from a strategic perspective and its implications for the role of the line manager and employees Strategic Perspective of HRM Strategically, HRM is a fundamental tool that provides the organization a framework to hire the best possible human resources in the organization. Human resource is the only asset of the organiz ation which cannot be imitated by the other organizations. Due to this, the organizations focus on developing such an effective team of workers who can provide the organization an edge over its competitors. The role of line managers and employees is also quite influential for the HRM practices such that these are actually the line managers to whom the HR department provides the best available employees so that those employees can achieve the overall organizational goals by facilitating their line managers. Section 2 2. Review ways of developing flexibility within the workplace: Review and explain a model of flexibility and show how this might be applied in practice Flexibility is a key area that has emerged vastly across the world in relation to human resource practices. The model of flexibility reflects such workplace environment where the employees are allowed to enjoy flexibilities with respect to different sorts of their job related issues. For instance, they might be provided f lexible time opportunity to decide their own timings for their job, allowing them to work at their homes, allowing them the flexibility to choose a reward package as per their own needs etc. These sorts of flexibilities provide the employees more ease and they perform their best when they are at their ease and thus adding more productivity to the organization. IKEAââ¬â¢s success brought imitators, such as Sears. In order to analyze IKEAââ¬â¢s competitive position in the Canadian Furniture Industry as well as Sears competitive threat, a model of competitive rivalry was used. IKEA and Sears both compete against each other in multiple markets across Canada, they both have market commonality and resource similarity. The Sears catalogue has almost the same format of an IKEA catalogue, and they both offer knock-down, self-assembled line products which allows the customers to create particular designs. In addition, the price for Elementsââ¬â¢ products in Sears seemed almost identical to IKEA prices. They both go closely to the supplier in marketing, research, design and development, production standards and production planning. Some of the suppliers of the Elements line for Sears were from Sweden, which is the same as IKEA, but it didnââ¬â¢t show that they had any suppliers in common. Itââ¬â¢s evidently that both of the market commonality and resource similarity are very high between those two companies. The market commonality and resource similarity can influence the drivers of competitive behaviour. The awareness of IKEA to recognize the degree of imitation by Sears is very high. High awareness enables IKEA to understand the consequences of Searsââ¬â¢ actions and responses. IKEA has a high motivation to respond Searsââ¬â¢s imitation. In order to protect IKEAââ¬â¢s position in the furniture market, IKEA has a philosophy to dealing with the copyright. IKEA would like to make a new model to replace the stole one rather than bring a lawsuit. Furthermore, IKEA has the ability to attack or respond to Searsââ¬â¢ actions. Since they both hold the similar resources, the ability to attack and respond is similar. IKEA should consider all important issues before taking action or respond to Sears. First-mover incentives, organizational size, and quality are the three factors that IKEA may take action to its competitors. As a first mover, IKEAââ¬â¢s business approach was fundamentally different from the traditional Canadian retailers. IKEA focus on ââ¬Å"quick assemblyâ⬠furniture and allow the customers assembled at home. Due to this reason, its price is 15% below the lowest prices for traditional furniture. The size of IKEA Canada is relatively small than Sears. The smaller size enables IKEA to launch competitive actions to defend their market position. The quality of IKEAââ¬â¢s product can be guaranteed. As one of the competitive strategy, IKEA had nearly 100 production engineers to assist suppliers in every way to low costs, introduce new technology, and design. The company has a philosophy to ââ¬Å"create a better everyday life for the majority of people. â⬠In order to defend its market position, IKEA may response Searsââ¬â¢ imitation in the following ways. IKEA may implement some strategic action, such as new innovation, to replace the stolen model from Sears. IKEA may lower its price, always by 10 to 15 percent on a particular item, than Sears. If IKEA canââ¬â¢t do it, IKEA may just drop the item and select some other one, to compete against Sears. Sears is one of Canadaââ¬â¢s largest merchandising operations, and offering a wide range of medium price and quality goods. IKEA can predict that Sears with relatively lower market dependence are less likely to respond strongly to attacks threatening their market position. Two wonderful family holidays are just around the corner. Traditionally, we spend Thanksgiving or Christmas (or both) with the family to have a nice holiday dinner. There is always delicious food prepared for dinner, but what's dinner without dessert? The most traditional holiday dessert is pumpkin pie, but how about "spicing" that dessert up a little this year? Well, here's the way to do it, a delicious holiday dessert that the whole family will love and it's quick and easy! The first step in baking, of course, is to gather all the ingredients necessary for the job. Luckily with this dessert, most of what you need, you'll already find in your kitchen. Whatever you don't have, you can just pick up at your local grocery store: 1 can pumpkin, 3 eggs, 1 cup milk, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. ginger, 1/2 tsp. cloves, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 box spiced cake mix, 1 1/2 cubes margarine or butter, and 3/4 cup favorite chopped nuts (if desired) and a 9 x 13 inch baking pan. You may also need a measuring cup and measuring teaspoons if you want to measure the ingredients evenly. Also, you'll need a small bowl, to beat the three eggs and melt the butter in, and a large bowl to mix the ingredients together. Now that you have all your ingredients, you can get started on the fun, but first, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Before you mix all the ingredients, beat the three eggs together in the small bowl until they are well mixed. Now mix together the can of pumpkin, the three beaten eggs, the milk, salt, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and sugar in the large bowl. You can use anything to mix it all with, a rubber spatula, a wooden spoon, or if you have neither of those, a large spoon will do the trick. Be sure to mix everything so that it's mixed evenly. There's no need to grease the pan first. Just pour the mixed ingredients into the baking pan. Pour it all so that it covers the pan evenly. Don't just pour it all in one spot. If you couldn't get it even while pouring, smooth out the top of the pudding with your mixing tool. Rinse the bowl in which you beat the eggs; or if you'd rather, just grab a new bowl. The use of a theatrical performance to explain the interaction was indeed an ingenious idea that kept me intrigued until the very end. This book was written in 1959 but its referencing to human behaviour is still very much relevant to todayââ¬â¢s life style. Human behaviour patterns have been written about by many individuals over the years, why we do the things we do or how long we have been undertaking these behaviours. Is there any relevance to the patterns in our behaviour? It would seem there definitely appears to be. As a society, to influence how another person perceives who we are. We give appearances and refinements of someone we want people to see, yet not particularly who we truly are. Goffman describes this as a performance, a play that we put on to give a good first impression. This play could become a nightmare, if we do not keep it under control. It can be difficult to play the part of someone you are not, for the reason that it can rebound on you. It is better to persist with who you are, and not reveal all of yourself in the beginning, like a good story. To present who we are, we should start at the foundation, begin with presenting an opening act. This act should be near to true life, the person you would like to be known as. Currently a person of importance gives the impression that they know what they are doing, example your doctor. If they were a person who, on first meeting gave the impression that they were unsure, confused and unconfident, would you go back to them? No, perhaps not. Even when they are having a bad day your doctor will always appear to be in control, so that we feel more at ease. When we first meet new people we try to acquire information about them, it is then how the person delivers this information, that we base our assumptions. People give information verbally and non-verbally by expressions, movements, gestures and other presumably unintentional communications, like a slight smile. Our brain takes all this information into consideration then makes a personal judgment based on the material it collects. There is so much information for us to collect and make our decision on, that we sometimes need a second meeting to be able to make a correct judgement on a particular person we have meet. Goffman concludes that his own assumptions are made upon a face-to-face interaction and the result of an encounter, the performance that is given to each particular participant and their performance as a basic point of reference. In conclusion, Goffmans writings clearly represent how we present ourselves in everyday life today, and possibly well into the future. References Erving, Goffman (1959). Have you ever made collages? Out of newspaper articles or a magazine? Do you know who created that? Pablo Ruiz Picasso was born on October 25, 1881 in Malaga, Spain. His father worked as an artist, was also a professor at the School of Crafts and he also worked as a custodian for a museum in Malaga. Picasso indicated a passion and an ability to draw at a young age. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Pablo Ruiz Picasso Life" essay for you Create order At seven, Picasso was being trained in drawing figures and oil painting by his father. At fourteen, he was traumatized when his seven-year-old sister, Conchita, died of Diphtheria which is a bacterial infection that affects your mucous membranes. Later on, Picasso was sent to Madrids Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, a highly respected place but then stopped attending classes at sixteen because he didnt like how they taught. 1901 to 1904 was known as Picassos Blue Period. Most of his paintings were in shades of blue and blue-green which was influenced by an emotional turmoil he was suffering as a lot of his loved ones passed away during this time. It started in 1901 when he met his closet friend Carlos Casagemas but their friendship ended suddenly when Casagemas committed suicide due to his significant other. It was thinking about Casagemas that got me started painting in blue (Artsy). La Vie (Life) is one of Picassos most respected painting in his Blue Period. Made in 1903, the painting shows Casagemas being clutched by a woman while the two are looking at a mother and child with two canvases in the background of people crouching. In opinion, the two canvases in the background shows grief. After the artist finished La Vie, he moved to Paris and unfolded from his Blue Period, into soft, joyful pinks. Picasso went from themes of poverty, loneliness and despair in shades of blues to themes of happiness and cheerfulness in hues of red, orange, pink and earth tones. This was known as Picassos Rose Period that started in fall 1904 when he met the artist Fernande Oliver, his mistress, who is known to be one of the reasons he changed his style of painting. Circus performers and clowns appear a lot in the Rose Period and the harlequin, a mute comedian typically dressed in checkered costumes, became a character for Picasso. Picassos Rose Period ended in 1906. Picasso became extremely influenced by African sculptures and traditional African masks because he liked the style. Picassos African Period was from 1906 to 1909. In the early 20th century, African artworks were being transferred to Paris and when Picasso saw African art at a museum, it influenced his style of one of his painting called, Les Demoiselles dAvignon. Analytic cubism is a style of painting that Picasso created with French painter, Georges Braque. This period lasted from 1909 to 1912. Analytic cubism uses monochrome browns and neutral colors. In 1911 Picasso was arrested for the theft of Mona Lisa for having association with Gery Pieret, who was an artist and had a history of stealing artworks. He was later cleared out of any involvement with the paintings disappearance. That didnt stop him from painting though. Synthetic Cubism lasted from 1912 to 1919. It was digging deeper into cubism with making collages out of wallpaper of cut out pieces of a newspaper article. During the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Picasso was living in Avignon, France. After having fame and money, he left Olivier for a woman named Marcelle Humbert, who he called Eva Gouel. Eva was featured in most of his Cubist works and he was shocked when she died from a bacterial infection called Tuberculosis in 1915. During summer of 1918, Picasso got married to a ballerina, Olga Khokhlova. After their honeymoon, Picasso met a French-Jewish art dealer named Paul Rosenberg and he got the couple an apartment in Paris while Khokhlova presented Picasso to high-class people and they had a son named Paulo Picasso. The couple ended up having constant arguments and in 1927, Picasso began a secret affair with Marie-Therese Walter. Picasso never divorced Khokhlova because he did not want her to have half of his wealth, as French law re quires. They stayed married until Khokhlovas death in 1955. Picasso was still with Walter and had a daughter with her, named Maya. Walter hoping Picasso would marry her, hanged herself four years after he died. His Neoclassicism and Surrealism Period lasted from 1917 to 1929. That was his first time traveling to Italy. This period was mostly in the style of visual arts, theatre and music. An example of his style during the period is Two Women Running on a Beach, or Large Bather. During the 1930s, a Greek mythical creature named minotaur replaced harlequin as his theme in most of his work. The minotaur and Marie-Therese Walter were featured in his work, Vollard Suite. Picassos most known work from his time around was Guernica (1937), which was his perspective of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Asked to explain its symbolism, Picasso said, It isnt up to the painter to define the symbols (Wikipedia). During World War II, Picasso was in Paris and his style of painting didnt fit what the Nazis liked so he did not put his work out to the public. He got searched by the Gestapo, which is a secret police force of Nazi Germany, and they questioned him if that was his work and he continued to reject it. He produced work such as Still Life with Guitar and The Charnel House. Between 1935 and 1959, he began writing poetry and wrote over 300 poems! During that time, he also wrote two full-length plays called Desire Caught by the Tail and The Four Little Girls. In 1944, Picasso began a romantic relationship with a young artist named Francoise Gilot. After growing tire of his other mistress Dora Maar, he began to live with Gilot and they had children named Claude Picasso and Paloma Picasso. Gilot later revealed that Picasso was abusing her and she ended up leaving him, taking the children with her. Picasso ended up having many other affairs with young and old women including Genevieve Laporte and Jaqueline Roque. Picasso final works were a mix between all his different painting styles. He died on April 8, 1973 in Mougins, France due to Pulmonary Edema and heart failure while at a dinner party with his wife, Jacqueline Roque. Due to depression after his death, Roque shot herself in 1986. Pablo Picasso was one of the most influential artists in the 20th century. Whenever you are making a collage out of pieces from a newspaper think of who created that. Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Inspiration does exist, but it must find you working. Pablo Picasso. Power Struggles in Capitalist Democracies and the Fate of American Labor Unions To some, capitalistic democracy conjures up the picture of a utopia where the free market is accompanied by individual liberty and social justice. To others, however, the term is more like a paradoxââ¬âdespite tremendous economic power, the advanced industrial nations are not immune from the evils of socio-political inequality as well as economical disparity. Amongst the capitalist democracies of the world, it is an established and well-known fact that when compared with the advanced industrial countries in Europe, the United States has the worst condition of economical-political inequality and social injustice. Its government is the least progressive, andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The demand constraints limits what the labor class and the state can demand from the capitalist class because it essentially controls the economy through capital investment. As a result, the satisfaction of the interest of capitalists is a necessary condition for the satisfaction of all other inter ests within the system. (Cohen 298). There exists an inherent imbalance of power in a capitalist democracy because its stability and growth depends primarily on the economic well being of the capitalist class. This group holds the power of choosing what, where, and how to invest their resources. Moreover, corporations control a host of decisions unless and until the government specifically intervenes. (Clowson et al, 161) The labor class is dependent on them for employment and income, and the state also relies on them both directly and indirectlyââ¬âdirectly through income tax of the rich and their businesses (which pays the most for social programs in the socially necessary process of wealth redistribution), and indirectly through income tax levied on the working class who are employed by the capitalists. The book is about the life in colonial Boston of Hester Prynne, Her husband Roger Chillingworth, and Hesterââ¬â¢s lover Arthur Dimmesdale. An element of this theme is sin. The whole bases of the novel are on the sin of Hester and Dimmesdale committed. The sin of adultery had great consequences and haunted both of them until the day they died. In the time this novel was written adultery should have been condemned with murder, but some of the townââ¬â¢s people took pity on Hester because no one knew what happened to her husband. Although the women of the town did not agree with the decision. In this novel, Chillingworth is considered as worst sinner. In the case of The Scarlet Letter the wrong, or sin, is adultery: a very serious breach of Christian morality. A young woman, Hester Prynne, has been found guilty of adultery and must wear a scarlet letter ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠on her dress as a sign of shame. Furthermore, she must stand on the scaffold for three hours, exposed to public humiliation. Hesters punishment is purely social. She has to stand on the platform of the pillory, with the people gazing curiously at the scarlet letter on her breast. Society has decreed that she shall wear throughout her life a scarlet letter on the boson of her gown. This is the stigma that Hester has to carry always. She becomes a social outcast. Children follow her and shout at her. Strangers gaze at the scarlet on her bosom and make no secret of their contempt for her. She is cruelly treated by society. Her numerous acts of service as a Sister of Mercy do soften the world to some extent, but do not secure her its pardon. Society continues to be firm and harsh. Any other woman in place of Hester would have been won over to the side of the Devil or the Black Man. But the inherent goodness of Hester and her maternal solicitude for Pearl keep her away from any further evil. Crime and penalty are dealt here both on personal and social level. The act of adultery is a crime against the individual, that individual being the wrong husband or wife. But adultery is also a crime against society. Hester Prynne has by her adulterous action, wronged her husband Chillingworth and that is what she tells him in so many words. The wrong that she has done to her husband is a crime to a personal level. But as a member so society she is also a sinner. Hester herself does not consider her adulterous action to be a serious crime or sin. For the reason, she does not experience any deep sense of guilt even after society has pronounced his judgment upon her. Hester believes in the sanctity of love relationship between her and Dimmesdale. The scarlet letter ââ¬ËA is the stigma that Hester has to carry always for her misdeed. Children follow her and shout at her. She is cruelly treated by the society. But the inherent goodness of Hester and her maternal solitude to Pearl keep her from further evil. Her crime is the serious one and her punishment is great. But it must be pointed out that the punishment comes from the society and is unaccompanied by any pangs of the society. Hester believes in the sanctity of the love relationship between her and Dimmesdale. What we did, she says to Dimmesdale in the forest, Had a consecration of its own. We felt it so; we said so; we said so to each other. Dimmesdale produces an impression of weakness and timidity. He aggravates his sin of adultery by his prolonged concealment of it and he further aggravates it by trying to keep up an appearance of piety. As the novel is primarily a story of fall of a great priest, we can easily defy Dimmesdale as the tragic hero. His life is also one long misery. He succumbs to temptation once again when in the course of his forest interview with Hester; he agrees to flee from Boston with her, though he could not stick to it. This action also leads him to collapse and makes him a tragic hero. His weakness magnifies rather than lessens the power of story. His fight is internal. His confession to the public is in of the noblest climaxes in stories to tragedy. Dimmesdales castigation comes purely from within. Society does not punish him because it does not know that he is a greater sinner of adultery and also of hypocrisy. He is all the time haunted by the sense of guilt. The fact of concealment serves only to intensify his misery. He undergoes various kinds of penance including vigils, fasts and flagellation. Society does not play the least part in the mental torture, though the role played by Chillingworth cannot be ignored. However, the crime that Dimmesdale done is severe and the more bitter crime is his being hypocrite. But he receives his punishment and through it Hawthorne shows us his noble characteristics. In the forest interview with Dimmesdale, he suggests that they escape from Boston so that they can lead a new life, but she does not do so because, as has been said above, she does not consider her relationship with Dimmesdale to be immoral or sinful. But, as he tells Hester in the forest, it is all reparation and no penitence. One night he even mounts the scaffold as an act of expiation. But, as the author remarks, it is a mockery of penance and not true amend. Soon after this forest interview, he hardens himself and determines to make a public confession of his sin. He carries out his resolves to unburden his heart, and in a few minutes, meets his end on the scaffold. This incident is the climax of his spiritual development. He confesses his guilt and gives away his life, but he has established his right to a place in heaven by virtue of his act of genuine repentance and confession. As Hawthorne points out, a man like Dimmesdale should not commit a crime like adultery. Crime is for the hardened individual who is strong enough to crush the voice of his conscience. Society does not play the least part in the mental torture which Dimmesdale undergoes, though the role played by Roger Chillingworth in this connection can not be ignored. Chillingworth persecutes Dimmesdale and does so in a subtle manner. He greatly aggravates the suffering of the poor minister. Because Reverend Dimmesdales health has begun to fail, the townspeople are happy to have Chillingworth, a newly arrived physician, take up lodgings with their beloved minister. Being in such close contact with Dimmesdale, Chillingworth begins to suspect that the ministers illness is the result of some unconfessed guilt. He applies psychological pressure to the minister because he suspects Dimmesdale to be Pearls father. One evening, pulling the sleeping Dimmesdales vestment aside, Chillingworth sees something startling on the sleeping ministers pale chest: a scarlet ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠. Chillingworths misshapen body reflects the evil in his soul, which builds as the novel progresses, similar to the way Dimmesdales illness reveals his inner turmoil. The outward man reflects the condition of the heart. Chillingworth the wronged husband turns into a fiend when he dedicates his life to a hideous event. Hester goes through the punishment but she does not need the purification because she does not commit any crime. Love cannot be called a crime, though society tortured her. Dimmesdale is the real sinner and we see him going through his mental purification for seven years. He understands his sin and he confesses his crime before his death. We can call Chillingworth a great sinner here because he is not a good husband and he also chooses a way to torture Dimmesdale which is also a kind of hypocrisy from social point of view. On Election Day, Dimmesdale gives what is declared to be one of his most inspired sermons. But as the procession leaves the church, Dimmesdale stumbles and almost falls. Seeing Hester and Pearl in the crowd watching the parade, he climbs upon the scaffold and confesses his sin, dying in Hesters arms. Later, witnesses swear that they saw a stigmata in the form of a scarlet ââ¬ËAââ¬â¢ upon his chest. According to the legal statutes at the time and the prevailing sentiment of keeping in accordance with a strict interpretation of the Bible, adultery was a capital sin that required the execution of both adulterer and adulteressor at the very least, severe public corporal punishment. In Christian Belief, people who die with secret sin, they are more sinners. Hester Prynne, Dimmesdale and Roger Chillingworth both commit sin. Hester and Dimmesdale confess to the people and get redemption but Chillingworth does not confess to the people and for this reason he does not get redemption. Chillingworth is died as a sinner but Dimmesdale and Hester freed from sin. For this reason, we can consider Chillingworth as a worst sinner. Sin and knowledge are linked in the Judeo-Christian tradition. The Bible begins with the story of Adam and Eve, who were expelled from the Garden of Eden for eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. As a result of their knowledge, Adam and Eve are made aware of their disobedience, that which separates them from the divine and from other creatures. Once expelled from the Garden of Eden, they are forced to toil and to procreate ââ¬â two labors that seem to define the human condition. The experience of Hester and Dimmesdale recalls the story of Adam and Eve because, in both cases, sin results in expulsion and suffering. But it also results in knowledge ââ¬â specifically, in knowledge of what it means to be human. For Hester, the scarlet letter functions as her passport into regions where other women dared not tread leading her to speculate about her society and herself more boldly than anyone else in New England. As for Dimmesdale, the cheating minister of his sin gives him sympathies so intimate with the sinful brotherhood of mankind, so that his chest vibrates in unison with theirs. In the end, Hawthorne has mainly dealt with the idea of ââ¬ËSin, Punishment, and Redemption and he believed in sin and pre-destination like a true puritan. He inherited his Puritanism from his ancestors. It is said that the arts deal in the individual and the personal. This is true too certain extent. Artists (musicians, painters, photographers) express their own emotions through their work. The audience/spectators interpret the meaning of the art form in their own particular way, The idea that each person everyone should have their say, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, does not cause anyone to question everyone elses views, when it comes to art, Therefore everyone believes in his/her version of he truth. This can be seen in Leonardo ad Vines painting, the Teflon Lisa. No one can tell why the background of the painting slants from her right, or why Leonardo painted it(x ray scans confirm this) over the features of a man (it hasnt been verified if the man is Leonardo himself). Many people hue different theories, but at the end of the day, they will all be right because Leonardo never left anything which could explain his true intentions. This theory would be limited, however, if he was alive and/or left something behind which would explain the curious nature Of the painting. The arts are said to deal in the particular. This is almost always true. The world is divided in terms of culture, religion and language, in spite of technology and globalization trying to bridge gaps. The way something is viewed in one part of the world is almost never viewed in the same way in another. Thus, it is obvious that art that is related to culture and religion in one part of the world can never be interpreted in the same way in another part of the world. A very good example of art involving religion can be the Buddha of Banyan in Afghanistan. The Buddha were obviously a religious symbol to the Buddhists living in Afghanistan. They were carved in the 6th century. However, the Buddhist populations decreased and the country was gradually taken over by the Taliban. To them, the statues did not convey any religious meaning, and they were incapable of understanding why it was important to the millions of Buddhists around the world. They (the Taliban) were incapable of interpreting What the statues meant. The statues were destroyed, even though it avgas possible that the government could prosper from the tourists visiting the site. The Taliban found art involving statues (images of people) insulting, and proceeded to destroy them. However, there are anomalies to this rule as well. A famous example is Picasso Queering, which depicts the killings caused by the fascists in Spain. The painting represents violence and mindless killing. Its meaning is interpreted in the same way throughout the world. Science is based on the scientific method which itself is made up of observation, reason and experiment. It has two branches, the natural sciences (physics, chemistry, etc. ) and the natural sciences (psychology, economics, etc). As it deals with facts obtained from reasoning, observation and reasoning, it has little space for emotions, which is where it differs greatly with the arts, where motion counts tort everything. .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 , .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 .postImageUrl , .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 , .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1:hover , .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1:visited , .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1:active { border:0!important; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1:active , .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1 .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8a375efe2b1d84978b6bf14ea605fcc1:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Aleksandr solzhenitsyn russian dissident EssayThe sciences are said to deal in the general and collective. This means they apply to people from all over the world. This is shown by Darnings theory of evolution, in which he states that all human beings, regardless of race, have common ancestor- monkeys. Science can never be proven to be right. Theories in science can only be disproved through the scientific method. Darnings theory of evolution is only right as long as someone can disprove it. However, chances are the new theory will be generalized yet again. And yet, there are some things in science that cannot be generalized. The cost common example in this case is gravity. The Earth is shaped like an orange, which means some places are closer to the Centre and Some places are further away. The force of gravity is greater the closer a place is to the centre of the Earth. Thus, gravity is one Of those things that cannot be generalized. The sciences are said to be universal. This means that scientific theories apply to places all over the universe. This is shown by Newtons Second Law, where he mentions that every action has an equal and opposite reaction (there are some specifications in this law, which are too long be mentioned in this essay). According to Newton, this law is not confined to Earth, but applies to all reaches of space. Thus, as far as this theory is concerned, science is universal, However, there are some things in science that have not been proven to be universal. The most common example what we call life. Life itself is not universal in science, as scientists have still been unable to prove that there is life in space. There are rumors, no doubt, of aliens in outer space, but this needs to be proven by the scientific method. It this remains so, the very study to biology can be classified as something that is not universal. So far, scientists have only been able to prove that there is life on a tiny planet in the Milky Way. The rest of the universe is lifeless, it seems, Therefore, because of this certain anomaly, science, like the arts, deal in the particular (in this case, a particular planet in a particular galaxy). Tory lane Madeline Marie Thus from the aforementioned claims, justifications, counter claims and personal examples, feel that both the arts and the sciences deal in the particular, the general, the individual, the universal, the personal and the collective. It is argued that a Hegelian tragedy is not about the individual characters but rather what they represent. The beginning of the play Othello is set in Venice and the Venetian society is definitely portrayed to be in conflict. Firstly there is a war going on between Venice and the Turks. Othello is a general and plays a key role on the war. Eventually the venetians beat the Turks and Othello, Desdemona and the rest of the key characters go to stay in Cyprus. Secondly there is the conflict with race within the society. Othello, otherwise known as the moor, originates from North Africa and he is black. Many of the characters call his names such as thick lips and black ram as well as always referring to him as the moor. When Brabantio finds out that his daughter Desdemona is married to Othello, a black man, he thinks its monstrous and takes Othello straight to the duke. Lastly there are the constant arguments. In the opening scene of the play we see Roderigo and Iago arguing outside Brabantios house. Roderigo has paid iago a considerable amount of money to spy on Othello for him, since he wishes to take Othellos girlfriend, Desdemona as his own. Roderigo fears Iago has not been telling him enough and that this proves Iagos real loyalty is to Othello not him. Iago tells us of his hatred towards Othello for choosing Cassio as his new lieutenant and not him as he had expected. There are many opposing social forces in Othello; the main social forces are to do with white vs. black, love vs. lust, honesty vs. Lies and chaos vs. Order. The first social conflict to mention is black versus white. White people are seen to be generally higher up in society and black people lower down. It is clear that some of the white venetians strongly believe this statement should be the way forward for Venice and consequently they very raciest. This point is backed up firstly by Iagos hatred of Othello could be seen as partly being racially motivated. This is evident in his use of racially disparaging names for Othello. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, Othello can be seen as a victim of racist ideology because he gives in to and accepts the racist constructions of himself. The opening scenes establish Othellos status as an outsider in Venice. Iagos hatred of Othello as racially motivated is emphasised especially in his description of Othello as his Moorship which implies that Iago sees Othellos high status as incompatible with his race. In a way, Venice is portrayed as a society in which there are competing ideas about race, because not everyone has a problem with Othello being black, especially Desdemona and of course the duke who likes othello and doesnt mind one bit that he is black. But it is also portrayed as a society where no one seems to be totally unaware of Othellos difference. To other opposing social forces are love and lust. In the play there are examples of both these aspects. True love is shown between Desdemona and Othello at the beginning of the play. The two love each other for who they are, rather than just how each other look. You can see from how they act at the beginning of the play by how they speak and interact with each other that they are truly in love. On the other hand, lust is brought up in the play on several instances. First there is Iago, believing women are only creatures of lust and nothing more. He doesnt seem to believe in love, even though he is married and his wife loves him. He mocks love, believing it is only lust that brings a man and a woman together. He makes a lot of sexual remarks and mocks women. Also there is Roderigo who is lusting after Desdemona, rather than loving her. He sees her as a prize, as he does not seem to know her at all. Also with Bianca and Cassio, he does not seem to really love her, and sees Bianca as more of an object of lust to him. There is a lot of lying in Othello but there is also honesty. When it is said that in Hegelian tragedies it is not about the individual characters but what they represent, we can say that Iago represents lies and Desdemona, even though she deceives her father, represents honesty. Iago does nothing but lie. Even lying to himself to convince himself of the lie for when he tells it to other people. Iago says at the beginning; I am not what I am this tells the audience that he is a liar and he is going to deceive the Venetian society in many ways. When Desdemona is accused of having an affair with Cassio she speaks the entire truth and doesnt lie at all. But sadly Othello believes the lies rather than the truth. There is a battle between order and chaos and this is shown throughout the entire play. Although Iago goes through lots of trouble to create chaotic events at the beginning Shakespeare tends to bring a sense of order into the play that calms down the previous events. This is shown when Brabantio visits the Duke with the issue of his daughter and Othello. The Duke makes the decision to leave Othello and Desdemona be and that Desdemona has chosen this path and Brabantio follows the Dukes decision. However Iago never stops trying to cause the chaos and as Othello sinks deeper into distrust of Desdemona and is more consumed by his jealousy, chaos increases and threatens to devour him. His suspicion of Desdemonas affair overpowers him and makes him mentally chaotic, leaving him in deep despair. To conclude Othello is to a great extent a Hegelian tragedy because it matches hugely all of the Hegelian traits, especially the opposing social forces and the play being set in a society in conflict. What struck me about the lists I saw is that people didnââ¬â¢t seem to have as many ââ¬Å"starterâ⬠jobs as I did. Buzz Aldrinââ¬â¢s third job was as a fighter pilot, and by his 4th job he was already an astronaut! I wonder if the following list shows a lack of focus on my part? Or perhaps on the bright side, a sense of curiosity? Itââ¬â¢s possible that I started with my moment of fame and am only now rising back up to a position that meets my capabilities! Hereââ¬â¢s the list: 1. Sesame Street My parents took my sister and me to audition for Sesame Street when I was 6 years old or so, and we both got the job. I learned that Oscar and Big Bird are the same person, and how to say Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers many times fast. I learned how to put my checks in the bank and start saving. I also learned that I was not very good at voice over reports on what animals were doing. Itââ¬â¢s harder than it looks! 2. Baby Sitting How a mother would trust the safety of a 2-year-old or 7-year-old to me still baffles me. Thankfully there were no mishaps that I can remember. I learned to keepà emergency numbers on the fridge, and not to argue when someone wanted to give me extra money. I discovered that I like kids and am pretty good with them, in small doses. 3. Helping out at my dadââ¬â¢s real estate management office At my dads office,à I learned how to file, collate, and copy. These paper-focused skills are, well, not as useful as they once werebut sometimes I am still the one to figure out how to clear a paper jam. Iââ¬â¢ve always been great in an office environment. 4. Cashier at Carrot Top Bakery I got this job because my dad was friends with the owner, and was introduced to the world of bulk baking. I learned that even though I can do math in my head, I need to punch the actual numbers into the cash register so the business has a record of what was purchased (see my blog, How I Messed Up On My First Job- and What You Can Learn From My Mistakes!). When the phone company across the street went on strike, I learned that when you depend on one client for most of your business, you are at great risk. Perhaps this insight sowed the seeds of my entrepreneurial bent. 5. Counselor, Lifeguard and Swim Instructor at a summer camp To explore my ââ¬Å"crunchy granolaâ⬠side, I went back to my old, favorite summer camp as a counselor. I learned that the place was just as magical as a counselor as it was as a camper. And how to stay out all night without my 12-year-old bunk of campers finding out. Later in life, I used my lifeguarding skills to get free gym memberships when my salary didnââ¬â¢t support that luxury. Later, I shifted to a preference for monthly payments and more free time. 6. Assistant to a Director at the Yale Alumni Association This was a pretty great part-time job when I was in college. I learned how to suck up, and that when you have a position of power, no one will bat an eyelash when you can ask your student employee to run to get your dry cleaning. I also learned how to pick up dry cleaning. This trick of squeezing personal tasks into the workday has served me well as an entrepreneur. 7. Naturalist at Glacier National Park I volunteered for a summer after my sophomore year of college with the Student Conservation Association. In the remote mountains of Montana, I learned that not everyone appreciates my New York attitude. More practically, I gained skills in how to tie food high up in a tree and à make a lot of noise in the woods to warn the bears; and lets not forget the upside-down map tours of the park from behind the visitor center desk. I learned what crampons are. I also learned how to survive for a summer on the food available in a Montana corner store. I liked this outdoorsy type of job, and it led to my 8th job as an environmental education instructor. After that I went back to office jobs. What do you think my first seven jobs say about me? What do yours say about you? Iââ¬â¢m curious to hear! From the business definition, it is true that this may act as stepping stone for the company to maintain effective operations. Market research refers to the process of appreciating the ability of a given product to satisfy the needs of the customers through obtaining information related to it. Research and investigation works through accessing the emerging trends in the market, demographic structure and the buying habits exhibited by the customers. All these three aspects have made market research a suitable tool towards increasing the market share and potential coverage. The four major ways in which the company would feel the significance of the tool include: enabling effective communication, identifying and understanding opportunities, pinpointing problems that are characteristics of operations and acting as a benchmark for evaluating success (Mazzoni et al, 2007). The following is a chart showing the cycle for carrying out a market research The market research will allow the company to identify existing opportunities in the market towards establishing an empire of loyal customers. As stated in the case, the company exhibits inability to compete in the market because of the inability to adapt to the existing technological advances embraced by its competitors (Wei, 2008). The most perfect way to solving this would require the company to gather information about the market niche. The market niche information, obtained through market research and investigation will help in orienting the company to use other alternative ways for increasing market share and coverage. For instance, through market research, the company may realize that there is existing empty space such as the inability of the competitors to Douglas Calderonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01630213353440302089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9071532149021415064.post-57239221997172947012019-11-20T03:49:00.001-08:002019-11-20T03:49:02.499-08:00Photo Galleries' Masterpieces Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 wordsPhoto Galleries' Masterpieces - Essay Example Paris never looked that beautiful under the rays of the scorching sun. Natural beauty was at its best! Belin pictures were completely devoid of any form of aliveness. These twelve black and white gelatin prints housed inside this gallery soothed my nerves. These pictures of Paris showed different historical stages of this place. She took out the history and the personality of the objects and used these as an inspiration for her amazing photographs.à Valerie Belin was born in 1964 in Paris and held numerable exhibitions before this like the ones in Centre Georges Pompidou, Foundation Cartier pours lââ¬â¢art Contemporain, Museum of Modern Art, New York etc. Belin gave her pictures a weird mysterious look by combing two negatives together. there was no human presence in the pictures she captured it with a black and white effect, contrasting the light effects. Some details given to the photograph made it so mesmerizing and compelled me to ponder on Belinââ¬â¢s outstanding photography skills. She used modern technology in the best possible way and gave her pictures a more dreamlike pictorial effect. One viewed these pictures as drawings, not photographs due to their mystic beauty and artistic shades. At one corner of the gallery, crystal vases and glasses laid on the table. She scrutinized the light spectrum of these inanimate objects and focused on the primary process of her photography. The best of all were the pictures of D ancer at the lido, magicians and fruit basket.à Supernaturalism of Belinââ¬â¢s work was revealed through her pictures with a less documentary effect. She demonstrated her painterly view in these art pictures which were far away from naturalism which forced me to think of a question regarding the ambiguous scenes that were a part of these pictures. These were captured at oblique angles with perfection and made baroque and disquieting beauty a part of them. One thing I noted was that these pictures had illusions of the external world which made these images artificial and enchanted with fantasies. For this I will have to research sources of income and write about different types of employment and unemployment. The affect these have on salaries and wages will also be investigated. I have also been asked to research and summarise allowances and benefits. As part of the management of my personal finances I must produce a personal budget over a specific period of time, on completion of this I will pair with a partner and discuss my findings. Task 3 Why is it important for me to manage my personal finance? * To help not to run out of money * Help me with budgeting * Scarce resource * Savings * Paying bills * Living alone * Managing money is skill Task 4 Jobseekers allowance Jobseekers allowance would be paid to me if I am eligible for it and looking for (seeking) work. I also would have to be age 16 or over to be able to receive jobseekers allowance. This source of income is relevant for me because I am over the age of 16, living on my own and I am currently looking for work. Income support Income support provides financial help for people ages 16 and over, who have low income or no money coming in at all. This money is for people who are not currently seeking work. This money is to help people with day to day living. Income support is relevant to me because this is the situation I am currently living in and I also receive income support myself. Child benefit Child benefit is parents that have children under the age of 16 or children under 19 in full time education. Child benefit is no longer relevant to me because I do not live will my mother any more. Housing benefit Housing benefit helps towards paying my rent which would be my local authority, but they dont cover all my housing costs. Housing benefit is eligible to people who are renting a room or living in a hostel of sum sort. I can apply for this by just going down to my local authority office and filling in a housing benefit form. Working families Tax Credit Working Tax Credit is for people who are employed or self-employed, over the aged of 16 and are working at least 16 hours a week. They also have to have at least one child. In couples, one person has to choose who receives the tax credits. The amount of tax credits they receive will depend on their annual income. Tax credits are not relevant for me because I am not responsible for any children and I am not currently working. Task 5 When preparing for employment the documents I would need: * CV * Covering letter * Application form * National insurance number * Bank details * Qualification certificates * P45 (maybe not for me yet) CV I would need a CV so that the employers get a brief summary of my qualifications and experience to-date. It would include the school and college I have attended. It will also include my past work experience. My CV will now include that I have recently worked at Superdrug. My CV will also have my references. References are very important as the employers may want to contact the referees to confirm I have the qualifications for the job, and if I am reliable and trustworthy enough for the job. Covering letter A covering letter is needed because it is a part of the formal requirement. It will show the employer where I heard about the advert and why I feel I would be right for the job. Application form Application forms are used to help the employer to separate the good candidates from the not so good candidates. They are also used to find out about information and candidates background. National Insurance No. Every one that has the right to work in the UK has the right to a national insurance number once they reach the age of 16. The national insurance number will show what national insurance contributions the worker pays over the course of his/her working life and also the contribution employers have made. Bank details Bank details are required in order for the employer to give you your wages. Wages are now paid by direct transfer from the employer to the bank account of the employee. Qualification certificates Proof of GCSEs and past qualifications are important because the employer will expect me to have certain right qualification in order to have the job. Superdrug have specific qualifications that are required, these are called essential qualifications. Task 6 Types of employment Self employment Being self employed is when you do not work for anyone else you have your own business. For example owning your own sweets shop is self employment. The income of the sweets shop will come from the customers who purchase the sweets. The income may also come from the bank if you borrow money. Freelance Freelancers are a different type of self employment. Instead of owning their own business they sell their services by working for different businesses. For example a freelance hair dresser would not have their own hairdressing business they would get to all kinds of other businesses and do hairdressing. Employee Employees are people who work for someone who controls what work they do. The employer is in charge of the employees income and deducts national insurance from the employees wages or salary. As long as they is someone handling your wages before you get them you are an employee. I have recently completed a 2 week work placement at Superdrug which is in the retail sector. During this period I was privileged to be responsible for replenishing stock, providing customer advice and keeping the shop floor tidy. This placement enabled me to develop vital skills such as team working, numeracy and customer service skills which are all needed in order to become a successful retail assistant. This work placement was a part of my BTEC introductory business coarse this qualification will also enable me to qualify to work as retail assistant. Retail manager I am qualified to work in the retail sector as a retail assistant but in order to qualify as a retail manager I would have to finish my BTEC introductory coarse and then go on to study for three more years to receive a BTEC national certificate in business. After this I would then need to go and study a degree in retail management in order to qualify for this job. I have good interpersonal and communication skills and while on my work experience I enjoyed providing good customer service these skills would help me with working toward becoming a retail manager. Retail managers are responsible for day to day running of department stores, chain stores, supermarkets and independent shops this may include Organising sales promotions and recruiting, interviewing and training staff. Task 10 Wage/salary deductions Gross pay Gross pay the amount of money an employee earns before any deductions are made such as tax or national insurance. Net pay Net pay is the money employees actually get for them to spend. National insurance contributions National insurance contributions is an amount of money that the employee has to pay towards there employers this is deducted by the employer from the employees wages. If you are self employed you also have to pay national insurance contribution, this is a small monthly payment and then a lump sum at the end of the year. National insurance code National insurance codes indicate an employees marital status and how long an employee has been working. Income tax There is a certain amount of money that every body is allowed to earn before they have to pay income tax, this is called personal tax allowances currently for people under the age of 65 this is à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½5,225 a year. If you earn any more than this you will have to pay income tax, how much you pay will depend on how much money you earn. Pensions/superannuation Pensions are long time investments that are designed to provide you with money in your old age when you are not able to work any more. The earlier you start your pension the more you get when you retire. Employees are usually offered a pension scheme when the start there job. The employer pays a contribution to your pension fund and so does the employee this is deducted out of the employees wages before it get to them. Union subscriptions A union is a large group of workers in a particular industry or profession. Unions provide benefits such as legal advice and can also provide support in cases of unfair treatment or dismissal. To subscribe employees would have to pay fees this is sometimes deducted from the employees wages before it is received or the employee can pay the fees themselves but it is not compulsory. Task 11 Allowances and Benefits Housing benefit Housing benefit helps towards paying my rent which would be my local authority, but they dont cover all my housing costs. Housing benefit is eligible to people who are renting a room or living in a hostel of sum sort. I can apply for this by just going down to my local authority office and filling in a housing benefit form. This benefits me because its helps me to save money gives me more money to spend on more important things. Council tax Council tax is an amount of money you pay if you are renting out a council property or of you have you own property with a certain amount of people living in there. Council tax paid to pay the council for giving you their service of letting you live in their property and council tax also pay for things like people cleaning the streets. Interest from savings Interest from savings is when you put money into the bank or a financial institution and earn extra money on top. This is called interest. When you get interest you have to pay income tax on that interest, the bank usually deducts the tax before pay the interest. This benefits me because I regularly put savings into my bank account. Inherited money Most people decide to leave money to their relatives when they die, this is called inheritance. Inheritance could be a small or large amount of money and it may be necessary to pay inheritance tax on it. Borrowed money Borrowed money is anything from a loan to a bank overdraft. Money can also be borrowed from a relative or close friend in this case the money you have borrowed is the money you pay back. If you take out a loan or overdraft which is quit a large amount of money this usually involves paying back the money monthly and each month interest is added on top of the money that you are paying. This result in you paying more that you actually took in the first place, it is much wiser that you save your money for whatever you want to get therefore you will earn interest on your money rather that earning it. Working Families Tax Credit Working families tax credits is for people who have at least one child under the age of 16 or 19 in full time education and earn an income which is below a certain level. The person has to be working at least 16 hours a week and must have savings below à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½8000. this does not apply to me as I am not eligible for this because I have no children. Task 14 Explanation of how I planned my personal finances Spend or save As soon as I receive my money I spend it on things that I need such as food shopping and rent. Any money left over would get spent on the gym and my mobile phone then the rest would get put aside as my savings. Gambling Gambling is when you pay money hoping for a chance of winning more money. Doing this is dangerous because you are not guaranteed your money. Gambling is very addictive and if done regularly this could put you into debt that why I choose not to go down this road. Spending habits When I receive my money on a weekly basis I try and spend as little as possible on food shopping so that I have money left over for myself to spend on small luxuries for example a meal out with my friends. I sometimes tend to spend too much on luxuries and this sometimes gets me into problems but I always have someone at hand to help me. Money and lifestyle At the moment the amount of money I receive doesnt allow me to have the best of lifestyles but it is enough to put clothes on my back and to buy me shopping every week. To achieve the lifestyle I want I would need to find at least a part time job so I can earn more money than Im getting now. My expectations of work and money As long as I have enough money to buy me some food and to pay the rent I am ok for the moment. But I would like a bit more than that for example going on holidays and buying the latest clothing. To do this I would need to find a job and also make sure that I handle my personal finances correctly and do some budgeting for these luxuries. Short term accounts Every week I receive my income support into my bank account. I am currently using a current account all my bills are paid out of this account and all my Ema payment come into this account. I also have a short term savings account which I put money into every week. I use this account when I run out of money or need to pay for something important e.g. phone bill. Long term accounts A long term savings account is an account that allows you to build up interest on money that you are saving over a number of years. An example could be an ISA, this is an individual savings account because it is tax free provided the amount saved each year doesnt exceed à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½3,000. The interest is cumulative which means the amount of interest plus capital will increase year on year. Another example of a long term account is a bank loan. A bank loan is usually drawn over a long period. This is a lump sum of money that I borrowed from the bank and paid off over a long period of time. For example a mortgage is paid over a period of 25 years. Cheque book A cheque is a promise to pay someone in place of cash. When you are writing a cheque you write down exactly how much you are going to pay the person. The person then takes the cheque to the bank and waits for it to clear this takes between 3-5 days. It is important to make sure that you have the right amount of money in your bank so you dont go into debt. It is also important to keep a record of any cheques that have been written, this can be done by using stubs which are left in the cheque book after you tear it out to pay someone. The stubs are there so that you can note down the details of the cheque and will help keep track of your money. Credit cards A credit card is a card that you can use to pay for items of clothing or products. This card however gives you money on it but you have to pay it back you are also given a credit limit. To avoid spending more money than you actually have you should usually pay back the money within a month if the money is paid after this you will be charged interest. If you go over the limit that the company has given you interest will also be added. Also you can check how much money you are spending by checking a mini statement that you can get from a cash point. Debit cards Debit cards are cards that have your own money that you put on to the card. You can use this card to purchase virtually anything but instead of having a credit limit of borrowed money you are actually using your own money to purchase goods. A debit card allows you to take cash out of ATMs if you have enough money in your account. To see how much funds you have in your account through an ATM you are given a pin number by your bank to memorise this then allows you to draw cash from the machines and purchase items in shops. To check that no-one is stealing from you or to make sure you are not spending more money than your supposed to it is good to check your bank statement each month these are sent to you by your bank. The bank statement show how much money you had in your account originally, then show all payments that were taken out of that money. You can then check if there are any payments that you are unsure of or if any mistakes were made in you transactions. Paying bills Bills can be paid using direct debit or standing orders. This is when you money is taken out of you account and paid to a business for example, BT telephone company at the same time every month. This can help with budgeting, as you will know how much money is going out every month. To check that you are not paying out more than youre supposed to you can check the phone bill you receive every month. Remaining in credit It is important to manage your account carefully to ensure you stay in credit. You must make sure that when you making payments such as cheques and debit cards you have enough money to make those payments. If not you account will go in to debt and you will be charged fines for doing this, it will also build up a bad credit rating which will make it hard for you to get a mortgage or a credit card in the future. Task 16 Summary of holiday budget activity Why do you think it is important to manage your personal finances? I think it is important for me to manage my finances because it helps me to pay all my bills on time without getting into to debt. It also allows me to put money aside for unexpected emergencies. Managing my personal finances is a very important skill. This skill is extremely important if I would like to start my own business or borrow money from a bank. Managing my money correctly will enable me to live quiet a prosperous life in the long run. Did you find it easy or difficult to manage the finances given in exercises? give reasons I found managing finances quiet hard because you have to keep track of the money coming out of my income every week and there were a lot of different bills to pay and they were all different amounts. I also had to keep track of my spending at the same time to make sure that I didnt get into debt this was really difficult because you can get carried away when your sending your money on luxuries. After all that I have to calculate the total regular expenditure and then work out if I had any money left over to put aside as savings, overall this task was very challenging but it taught me a lot about how to manage my own finances. What did you learn from the exercise on budgeting over a period of time? From doing the budgeting exercise I learnt that saving the little scraps of money here and there builds up into to something big. Also cutting down on luxuries also helps in the long run because the money you have saved enables you to get those luxuries if you just give time. This budgeting exercise also taught me how to calculate my net cash flow which I previously did not know how to do. I also learnt that budgeting is important for everyone because it stop many people from getting into to debt and also helps them to save considerable amount of money. A conflict between these two obstinate characters leads to fatal consequences for themselves and their kindred. The firm stances of Creon and Antigone stem from two great imperatives: his loyalty to the state and her dedication to her family, her religion but most of all her conscience. The identity of the tragic hero of this play is still heavily debated. This tragedy could have been prevented if it had not been for Creon's pitiful mistakes. Creon's character possesses an infinite number of glitches in his personality, but his excessive pride was the root of his problems. His pride leads him to make accusations, before he considers the wise advice of others. Creon's pride also fills him not just as a king superior to the Gods, but also a man superior to women. The issue of Antigone being condemned to die becomes more than just a person who disobeys Creon; instead, the punishment is given even more eagerly, because it is a woman who disobeys a man. Creon's intelligent son warns Creon the people of Thebes sympathize with Antigone, but Creon accuses Haemon of being a "woman's slave" (line 756). Even though he is suppose to be loyal to the state and her citizens, he defensively questions if "the town [is] to tell [him] how [he] ought to rule?"(Line 734)The Theban king is too prideful to obey even the wisest of prophets, blind Teresias, insisting that "the whole crew of seers are money-mad" (line 1055). C reon finally puts his pride aside and listens to the Chorus' wise advice. It is difficult even then, and he obeys only because he fears the punishment that he might receive. "To yield [for Creon] is terrible" (line 1095) meaning to swallow his pride and admit that he is wrong is a very difficult thing for him to do. When Creon loses his wife and son, Creon's pride disappears, and he admits that he made a terrible mistake by not listening to anyone's advice. Antigone, a resolute and heroic female protagonist, pits her individual free will against the intractable forces of fate and against the irrational and unjust laws of tyrannical man like Creon.
